NBA 2K27 Early Access starts August 26 for Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners, with the worldwide launch on September 4. Pre-release numbers below will be verified and updated once the game is live.
Cap Breakers are back in NBA 2K27. They let you push individual MyPlayer attributes past the caps you set in the Builder, so your build keeps improving long after you finalize it. The big change this year is planning: once you create a 99 OVR build, the new Builder Glossary shows you exactly how much of a boost each attribute receives if a Cap Breaker is applied. The preview works in the game and in the NBA 2K HQ app, so you can plan your Cap Breaker path before you spend a single one.
What 2K has confirmed
- Cap Breakers return in NBA 2K27 and are earned through MyCareer progression.
- The Builder Glossary shows a Cap Breaker preview for every eligible attribute once your build reaches 99 OVR, in the game and in the NBA 2K HQ app.
- Season reward ladders include Cap Breakers. Season 1 has a 40 level ladder with Cap Breakers among the rewards.
- Build Specialization has six discipline tracks (Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding, and Physicals), and its quest goals award Cap Breakers.
- The City now has 40 REP tiers at launch, double last year's reward count. REP rewards are expected to include Cap Breakers, with exact tiers to be confirmed at launch.
Known Cap Breaker sources at launch
Community reporting and pre-release screenshots point to around 10 Cap Breakers available at launch. These numbers come from pre-release data, not 2K, so treat them as provisional until we verify them in game.

The full-year total is unknown. NBA 2K26 ended up with 28 Cap Breakers, and with one expected per Season plus rewards spread across 40 REP tiers, NBA 2K27 should land in a similar range. We will track every new source here as Seasons roll out.
How Cap Breakers apply
The details below come from community testing of the NBA 2K HQ builder before launch, not from 2K directly.
- Each attribute can take at most five Cap Breakers.
- Applied Cap Breakers are permanent for that build.
- Low rated attributes get much bigger boosts than high rated ones. A rating in the 20s can jump by double digits, while a 95 moves by one point.
- Cap Breakers cannot push an attribute past the maximum allowed by your build's height, weight, and wingspan.
- The exact gain depends on your overall build, so use the Builder Glossary preview to check your specific numbers before committing.
